Steady traffic streamed onto the island today for Balboa Island’s annual art exhibition – the Balboa Island Artwalk. The Artwalk is a yearly event featuring a variety of artisans who display and sell their pieces against the backdrop of sunshine and strong ocean breezes.
The Artwalk is billed as over a mile of art and live music, and the vendors are set up along South Bay Front at the foot of Marine Avenue. Crowds leisurely stroll the boardwalk, poring over displays of everything from oil paintings to pottery. The artists are on hand to answer questions and talk about their techniques.
There is something for everyone to enjoy – stunning photography of local landmarks, including the cottages at Crystal Cove and the cliffs of Laguna Beach, exotic jewelry made from shells and semi-precious stones, and traditional paintings of seascapes. Funky rock star portraits line the boardwalk next to hand carved wooden pieces. Each exhibit is different from the next, and the Artwalk’s live music adds to the relaxed setting.
Balboa Island’s Artwalk happens every year during the month of May. Be sure to add it to your weekend calendar.
