Looking for something fun to do on your Balboa Island vacation or stay-cation? Check out Movies on the Beach at the Newport Dunes Resort. The movies play every Friday and Saturday night during the summer and are a laid-back, inexpensive way to entertain your entire family. No easy feat in Newport Beach!
All you need is a picnic, beach chairs and some warm cozy blankets, and you’re set for the evening. Plan to arrive around 7:00 p.m. so you can stake out a good spot and enjoy your dinner as the sun sets. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. The feel is reminiscent of a drive-in movie, but instead you’re snuggled up with your family in the chilly night air (even in middle of summer.) It is so much fun!
The Newport Dunes Resort is located just across the bridge from Balboa Island and down Jamboree on the left. Park in the main parking lot (current rates are $10 per car) and walk to the left around the bay area. The Dunes is such a cool place! You’ll see RV’s lit up with lanterns and cute cabins for rent. People everywhere are hanging out, grilling and playing games on the sand. There are a few bonfire pits, and there’s even one adjacent to the movie area so you can make s’mores.
